Reopening of the Debtors’ Prison

Thanks to a major preservation effort, the Debtors’ Prison in Accomac has been restored so future generations can experience one of Virginia's most remarkable historic buildings.

This rare landmark reopened in September 2026 for a special Fall Tour season, featuring docents and a curated historical collection. The building will be open seasonally for public tours, educational programs, and special events, including Santa’s visit to town on Sunday, December 6, 2026. 

It will also be open for the 2027 Eastern Shore Garden Tour. Dates TBA

Docents will be at the site with brochures.
